4जी फ़ीचर के साथ एयरटेल के बंडल ऑफर की योजना
निवेशकों की बैठक में 2016 की तीसरी तिमाही के नतीजे घोषित करने के बाद, एयरटेल के एमडी और सीईओ गोपाल वित्तल ने कहा कि देश की सबसे बड़ी टेलीकॉम ऑपरेटर को फोन बनाने और इसकी इनवेंटरी बनाने में कोई रुचि नहीं है। इसकी जगह, कंपनी 4जी फ़ीचर फोन बनाने वाली कंपनियों के साथ साझेदारी करेगी और डिवाइस के लिए बंडल प्लान ऑफर करेगी। एयरटेल ने मार्च 2018 से अपनी 4जी वीओएलीई सेवा लॉन्च करने की योजना का भी ऐलान किया। अभी भारत में सिर्फ रिलायंस जियो ही 4जी वीओएलटीई नेटवर्क उपलब्ध कराती है। एयरटेल ने अभी पहले ही चुनिंदा स्मार्फोन के लिए बंडल ऑफर दिए हैं। और नई नीति मौज़ूदा का विस्तार ही है।
लावा अभी इकलौती स्मार्टफोन कंपनी है जिसके पास बाज़ार में 4जी फ़ीचर फोन है (जियो फोन 15 अगस्त से बीटा टेस्टर के लिए उपलब्ध होगा)। लेकिन माइक्रोमैक्स, इंटेक्स और कार्बन भी जल्द ही इस लिस्ट में शामिल हो सकती हैं। इसके अलावा कई दूसरे छोटे ब्रांड भी हैं जो इस तरह के हैंडसेट बनाने की शुरुआत कर सकती हैं।
जियो फोन
जियो को उम्मीद है कि कंपनी एक साल के अंदर 10 करोड़ जियो फोन यूनिट बेच लेगी। लेकिन ये डिवाइस सिर्फ कंपनी के नेटेवर्क पर ही चलेंगे। जियो फोन के साथ कंपनी के बंडर ऑफर के अलावा इस फोन में पहले से कंपनी के ऐप भी इंस्टॉल आते हैं। हालांकि, अभी बाज़ार में मौज़ूद अधिकतर फ़ीचर फोन डुअल सिम हैं लेकिन 4जी फ़ीचर फोन में एक सिम स्लॉट के लिए ही सपोर्ट मिलने की उम्मीद है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि आने वाले सभी फ़ीचर फोन 4जी वीओएलटीई नेटवर्क पर चलेंगे जैसे कि जियो।
Jio phone became the hottest topic in the country when it was was unveiled last week. Its features and the Rs. 0 price tag would be a cause for concern not just for phone makers, but also telecom operators who have seen how much the company and its free products can affect the industry. With the Jio phone, the Mukesh Ambani-backed operator would have go after the low-end feature phone users, which had not been affected by the Jio telecom plans in the past year. And rival operator Airtel has a plan to counter the handset, and hopes to contain its impact on the market.
Airtel plans bundled offers for 4G feature phones
In the investor call after announcing its Q1 results for fiscal 2018, Airtel MD and CEO Gopal Vittal said the country’s largest operator is not interested in manufacturing phones and maintaining inventory. Instead, it plans to join hands with 4G feature phone manufacturers and offer bundled plans for the devices. Airtel has also announced plans to launch 4G VoLTE services by March 2018; Jio is presently the only VoLTE network in the country. Airtel already offers bundled plans for certain smartphones, so this strategy will be an extension of an existing one.
Lava is currently the only brand with a 4G feature phone in the market (JioPhone will start shipping for beta trials on August 15), but Micromax, Intex and Karbonn are expected to join the fray as well. Other smaller brands may start manufacturing such handsets as well, depending on the demand and the costs involved.
Jio phone
Jio is expected to sell 100 million units of the Jio phone within a year, but the device will be locked to the company’s own network. A bundled offer with partner vendor will give Airtel the same kind of exclusivity, and the option to preload its apps on the handset. However, most of the feature phones in the market are dual SIM, a function 4G feature phones are also expected to retain. It is also expected all of them will work on 4G VoLTE networks, such as Jio’s.
